Fossil Farmsβ Berkshire Pork are raised outdoors on pasture with open access to forage and grain by family farmers in Iowa and New Jersey. They are part of the βNever Ever Program,β where antibiotics, steroids and hormones are never used. Berkshire Pork is known for its high fat content, where fat equals flavor. The meat is dark pink to red hued, heavily marbled, juicy and tender. Berkshire Pork is a pig breed that is originally from Berkshire County, England, and in the nineteenth century, they were introduced to Japan and the United States. Called Kurobuta Pork in Japan, they are regarded as the best tasting, consistently high-quality pork available. Berkshire pigs grow slowly, taking almost twice as long to grow and develop as a conventionally raised pig.
