Fossil Farmsβ Duroc Pork is raised by family farmers in Pennsylvania and Maryland. These pigs are free roaming and are part of the βNever Ever Program,β where antibiotics, steroids and hormones are never used. Duroc Pork is slightly more lean than Berkshire Pork, however, it produces a consistently tender and flavorful product year round.
Duroc Pork is a breed that was developed between 1822 and 1877 from the Old Duroc pig of New York and the Red Jersey pig of New Jersey, formerly called the Duroc-Jersey. The Duroc proved particularly suitable for feeding in the United Statesβ Corn Belt, and by the 1930s, Duroc becameΒ the predominant pork breed in the United States.
